May Day: A Handwritten Font That Elevates Campaign Typography

The Campaign Clock Was Ticking

It was 9 AM on a Thursday, and I was staring at a half-built Instagram carousel for a summer skincare launch. The visuals were strong, but something was missing. The headlines felt flat. The brand voice was warm and inviting, but the font wasn't matching the tone. I needed a typeface that could bridge the gap between elegance and approachability—something that felt personal, yet polished.

Enter May Day

May Day is a delicate and elegant handwritten font. Its distinct and well-balanced letters make it a standout in the Script Amp category. Unlike many decorative fonts that lean too whimsical or overly stylized, May Day strikes a perfect balance—soft enough for lifestyle branding, bold enough for digital visibility.

As I dropped it into the carousel headline, the change was immediate. The text felt like a handwritten note from a friend, not a corporate message. It brought warmth and personality to the campaign visuals, helping the brand feel more human.

From Thumbnails to Email Banners

May Day shines brightest in digital campaign elements where personality meets clarity. I used it across:

Its clean flow and open spacing made it surprisingly legible even in smaller thumbnails. For fast-scrolling feeds, I kept it to short phrases or single-line headlines. It worked especially well when paired with a minimalist background—white, pastel, or soft gradient.

Visual Hierarchy and Message Clarity

One of the biggest challenges in digital marketing is making sure your message lands fast. May Day helped establish a clear visual hierarchy. When used for headlines or quote overlays, it drew the eye without overwhelming the supporting content.

For example, in a Mother’s Day email campaign, we used May Day for the subject line preview: “A little love goes a long way.” It felt personal and sincere, matching the emotional tone of the message. In contrast, the body text used a clean sans serif for readability and contrast.

Best Use Cases for May Day

While May Day is incredibly versatile, it works best in specific contexts:

It’s not ideal for long paragraphs or small body text. Instead, think of it as your go-to for display use—those critical moments where you need to connect emotionally and quickly with your audience.

Readability Tips for Digital Campaigns

When working with May Day on mobile screens or thumbnails, here are a few practical tips:

It’s also important to consider font size. I found that anything below 18px started to lose clarity on mobile, so I reserved it for headers and key callouts.

Font Pairing Made Easy

May Day pairs beautifully with modern, clean fonts. I often combined it with a light sans serif like Montserrat or a soft serif like Playfair Display. This created a nice visual rhythm—elegant but not overly formal.

For a wellness brand’s Instagram grid, we used May Day for post titles and a minimalist sans serif for captions and hashtags. The result was a cohesive, visually appealing feed that reinforced brand identity without feeling cluttered.

What to Check Before You Launch

Before using May Day in client work or commercial campaigns, make sure to:

Many premium fonts, including May Day, come with ligatures and stylistic alternates that can add a unique touch to your campaign visuals. Don’t skip these—they can elevate your design from good to exceptional.

Designing with Purpose

Typography isn’t just about making text look pretty—it’s about communication. In a world where attention spans are shrinking, choosing the right font can make the difference between a scroll-past and a stop-and-read moment.

May Day gave our campaign visuals a sense of intimacy and authenticity. It wasn’t just a font choice—it was a strategic design decision that supported the brand’s voice and strengthened the message.

Whether you're launching a new product, running a seasonal sale, or building a content series, May Day is a font that can help your campaign stand out—gracefully.
